Dr Afrasiabi graduated from Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran in 2004 before moving to Australia in 2008. He then completed the exams of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and RACGP and successfully became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of GPs (FRACGP). For his performance in the GP fellowship assessment, he was awarded the RACGP Mary Mahoney Award.
Dr Afrasiabi's passion for learning about skin cancer medicine began in 2012 during his experience working in Rural Queensland. He noticed the real issues faced in Queensland and that more expert practitioners in primary care are needed to address them. Dr Afrasiabi obtained his first primary-care Skin Cancer Medicine Certificate from the University of Queensland in 2012. Since then, he has had multiple certificates and diplomas from the University of Queensland and the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand (SCCA).
After completing advanced certificate courses, Dr Afrasiabi has been a certified skin cancer practitioner by SCCA (Skin Cancer College of Australia ) since 2017. He regularly attends workshops and conferences to update his knowledge of skin cancer. He strongly believes in focusing on skin cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and management of skin cancers when they are still curable. He spends time educating patients on further preventative health to support his patient's ongoing health.
Dr Afrasiabi contributes additional effort in discussing treatment options for conditions, including the least invasive and most effective options and providing empathetic and individualised care. In addition, he has training through general dermatology courses to support patients with other general dermatological issues, education, treatment or referral to proper other specialists when needed.
Outside of being a doctor, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, gardening and sports. Extra Qualifications through the Skin Cancer College of Australasia and the University of Queensland include:
