Dr Sahar Behnam graduated medicine in 2008 in Iran before obtaining her fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2016. After working as a GP in Iran, she has continued practice medicine in Australia from 2014, and within Brisbane since 2017. With previous experience working in rural areas and hospital settings in Iran, she is confident in delivering a quality care in different aspects of general practice and continues to expanded her education and training since her move to Australia. Dr Behnam’s areas of special interests include women’s health, children’s health, skin cancer medicine and management, sexual health and chronic disease management.
Her special interests in women’s health extends to antenatal and postnatal care, contraceptive health, Implanon insertion and removal and IUD and Mirena insertion and removal, pap test and cervical screening and sexual health. Also, her interests in mental health lead her to progressing through post graduate educational training in mental health. She was awarded the certificate of focused psychological skills Training (FPST) by RACGP.
Dr Behnam is experienced in skin cancer care. She performs skin checks, biopsies, and excisions (including ellipse, flap and graft wound closures within the scope of general practice). She can complete minor procedures, wedge resections and wound management and continues to strive to improve her skills.
Sahar prides herself on providing a warm and welcoming consultation to her patients. In addition to English, she also speaks Persian and German.
