Commercial Driver Medicals

Commercial driver medicals confirm a driver's medical fitness for heavy vehicle, bus, coach and other commercial vehicle licences. Assessments are carried out against the Assessing Fitness to Drive (AFTD) standard published jointly by Austroads and the National Transport Commission.

Eaton Central Skin Clinic provides commercial driver medicals for drivers across Eatons Hill, Albany Creek, Brendale, Strathpine and North Brisbane. Bookings are available for individual drivers, fleet operators and transport companies managing ongoing compliance.

A standard commercial driver medical covers:

• Vision — distance, peripheral and colour vision
• Cardiovascular health — blood pressure, heart rhythm, cardiovascular risk factors
• Neurological screening — including seizure and stroke history
• Musculoskeletal assessment — range of motion and functional capacity
• Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSAS) screening — mandatory for heavy vehicle drivers
• Diabetes and medication review
• General medical and family history

Additional testing may be recommended depending on age, licence class and medical history.

To make the appointment efficient:

• Photo ID (driver's licence)
• Glasses or contact lenses if you use them for driving
• Hearing aids if applicable
• A list of current medications (or the packets themselves)
• Any relevant specialist reports — cardiology, sleep studies, endocrinology
• The NHVR or Queensland Transport medical form if you have it

Most appointments take 30 to 45 minutes.
